Much of our research is dependent on large computer resources. Together with a number of universities in Europe, Erik Lindahl and his team have established a new EU-funded center-of-excellence for computational biomolecular research - BioExcel. Since 2014, Lindahl has served on the Scientific Steering Committee for the European Computer Infrastructure PRACE, and during 2017 I serve as of the Scientific Steering Committee and sit on the PRACE Board of Directors.
GROMACS Development
Our group is responsible for developing GROMACS, a versatile package to perform molecular dynamics, i.e. simulate the Newtonian equations of motion for systems with hundreds to millions of particles.
Cryo-Electron Microscopy
As internal users of the Cryo-EM Swedish National Facility at SciLifeLab, several group members are engaged in sample optimization, data collection and analysis, and software development for single-particle cryo-electron microscopy and tomography.
Ligand-Gated Ion Channels
Projects in this subgroup combine structure, function, and simulation approaches to characterize various types of pentameric ligand-gated ion channels, particularly their modulation by allosteric drugs such as alcohol, anesthetics, or insecticides.
